Pairing up a SyncMaster with the Mac mini

Samsung's SyncMaster 172x monitor

I'd probably have managed to hold off the temptations of the newly announced Mac mini if only for the fact that I appear to already own the perfect monitor for the teensy, tiny little thing - the Samsung SyncMaster 172x already scores points from an aesthetic view, and certainly wins the day on price compared to Apple's widescreen offerings.

Tom's Hardware already swooned over its good looks, although they felt disappointed with it's game playing abilities; Overclockers Club was rather more complimentary but generally it's hard to find a bad word written about it.

Looking at the Mac mini blurb, I'm sure the machine itself is another of those wonderful Apple items that really needs to be appreciated in real life; the iMac G5 didn't come across as "all that" in pictures, but in person it's quite glorious. It'll be interesting to note if something that's already quite desirable in photos lives up to expectations.

In other news from the MacWorld Expo, Steve Jobs noted that the Apple store in London is doing a roaring trade (2nd highest grossing store worldwide, I believe), so this might be the excuse I've been looking for to go and have a peek there.

But after next payday, at least. Bloody January.

Apple's inventory management sucks

Not content with messing up with their inventory on Power Mac G5's, eMac's, iPod mini's and iMac's, Apple have now delayed the Airport Express for another two weeks in the UK.

Upgrading the iPod's headphones

With the attraction of the iPod's shiny white headphones to thieves I've been using Sony's MDR-EX71SLB alternatives instead and can't rate them highly enough.

Movable Type template for iCal

For reasons I'm not entirely sure of, I've put together a feed of this site in iCalendar format (as used most notably by Apple's iCal).

Blatant FCC Violation Version

Despite being essentially banned in the UK, my very own iTrip landed on my doormat this morning. First impressions are great, with the look and feel being very much like it came from Apple's own R&D department.
