Early Day Motion 1491

Simultaneously showing the brilliance and occasional pointlessness of the British Parliamentary system, the MP for Wimbledon Roger Casale tabled an Early Day Motion regarding the successes of AFC Wimbledon, as follows:

That this House is delighted by the amazing story of AFC Wimbledon which only came into existence in summer 2002 following the bizarre decision to allow Wimbledon FC to relocate to Milton Keynes; notes that AFC was set up by Wimbledon fans who wanted to reclaim their club from the ashes of Wimbledon FC, or Franchise FC as it is often known; congratulates AFC on its astonishing performance during the 2003-04 season when it went unbeaten to win the Combined Counties Football League Premier Division with a total of 130 points, winning 42 games and drawing 4, scoring 180 goals and conceding just 32; notes that AFC also won the Premier Challenge Cup; welcomes the support of the London Borough of Merton for its local club by arranging a parade in their honour followed by a civic reception at Merton Civil Centre and giving AFC a leading role in its Football in the Community programme; notes the visit on 24th June of AFC players and representatives to the Palace of Westminster as part of their celebrations; wishes all supporter-led football clubs well in the coming season; and calls for all those involved in football to learn lessons from AFC's success story and to remember that first and foremost it is a game for the fans.

Quite splendid, I think.

I demand a census tomorrow of exactly where all the Scousers are. Because, in a few months time, you won't meet one who won't claim that he was in Istanbul tonight.

AFC Wimbledon in the Daily Mail

Back in November 2004 Ivan Speck of the Daily Mail wrote a fantastically positive article about AFC Wimbledon, much to the surprise of much of our fanbase.

AFC Wimbledon and the digital hub

With the recent relaunch (at least at the back-end) of AFC Wimbledon's official site, I've done my little bit for the team by putting together some other ways of getting at the site content.

"AFC all the way"

Chris Kamara of all people wrote up a hugely positive article in The Sun on AFC Wimbledon yesterday.
