Resetting the service counter on an Atlantic 500

Close-up of Aprilia Atlantic 500 dashboardOne of the daft issues that arises with owning an Aprilia Atlantic is that no-one (particularly the dealership) seems to have much of a clue about how to reset the service counter. Worse than that, the instructions that do filter down from Aprilia are vague at best.

With some trial and error I've managed to do this 2 or 3 times now (I'm just coming up to the 12,000mi service). The following is partially taken from the board at AprilaForum.com, and partially from my own experiences:

  1. Ensure the engine stop switch is set to off
  2. Ensure that the odometer is set to be the, er, odometer (not Trip 1, or Trip 2)
  3. Cycle through the MODE button displays until you get to "Service".
  4. Turn the key to the OFF position.
  5. Depress and hold the MODE button.
  6. Turn the key to the ON position.
  7. Continue holding the MODE button, whilst depressing the TRIP button.
  8. Hold these together for around five seconds
  9. Hopefully, the service function display will reset to 3800.

The main problem that tends to arise is that holding the MODE button when turning the key to the ON position occasionally moves the main display onto the next function. With a bit of patience, the above instructions will work eventually.

It's not normally how they do weight reduction

Bump and indeed ouch. After just over three years and 24,000 miles I finally succumbed to the road (and indeed the black ice as well).

Aprilia Atlantic 500 parcel rack

By sheer good luck, I managed to acquire a great looking retro-style parcel rack for my Aprilia Atlantic 500 a few weeks back.

Whiteout

It was a wee bit foggy today, to say the least.

Public Service Announcement

Gilera DNA riders seem to think a 50cc scooter shaped a bit like a 'proper' bike makes it comparable to a 500cc bike.

I'm about to buy an Aprilia Atlantic 500 2004 model. The trip and speedometer are in km and has a mph conversion sticker over speedo. The owner says it is not an import and was bought new from a UK dealer. Just wondering is this a parallel imprt or is this normal for this bike of this yr mfr.Can anyone help?

I have gas in the oil in my low mileage 2004 atlantic 500 aprilia. I hear I need a hotter thermostat. Where can I get it and what is the part #. Thanks, Kevin
