Fixing out-of-sync audio on OS X

I've recently downloaded a bunch of TV shows encoded in DivX and XviD, about half of which suffer horribly from out-of-sync audio using Quicktime or even the usually reliable VLC player.

A bit of searching uncovered the fact that I wasn't the only one, with the main solution bandied about was to use the tiny app "sync-hole" in order to match the audio and video tracks. Even so, I really didn't want to have to go through the manual process of post-processing every video file to make it usable on OS X.

However, it looks like there's a solution for now - the current 2b6 binary release of mplayer for OS X seems to avoid these problems completely and play the original files without issue. The full-screen mode runs ever so slightly askew on my 12" Powerbook (it's offset to the right a little) but it's kept up and worked well with the few XviD's and DivX's I've thrown at it so far.

Pairing up a SyncMaster with the Mac mini

I'd probably have managed to hold off the temptations of the newly announced Mac mini if only for the fact that I appear to already own the perfect monitor for the teensy, tiny little thing.

Apple's inventory management sucks

Not content with messing up with their inventory on Power Mac G5's, eMac's, iPod mini's and iMac's, Apple have now delayed the Airport Express for another two weeks in the UK.

Upgrading the iPod's headphones

With the attraction of the iPod's shiny white headphones to thieves I've been using Sony's MDR-EX71SLB alternatives instead and can't rate them highly enough.

Movable Type template for iCal

For reasons I'm not entirely sure of, I've put together a feed of this site in iCalendar format (as used most notably by Apple's iCal).
